ALABAMA RENAISSANCE FAIRE

Minutes of Meeting, 10-9-08

 

Those present:  Calvin Liles, Rick McAdams, His Majesty King Gregory, Donna Miles, Jim Lake, Bonnie McIntyre, Brenda Imrie, William Freeman, Lee Freeman, Jan Roblin, Mandi Green, Perri Scott-Hawthorne, Noelle Smith, Mary Nicely, Sue Bevis, Beth Greenwood, Vinamrata Gupta, Aubrey Gaskins, Carol Burhans, Billy Warren

  1. Billy Warren circulated a copy of the article and photograph regarding our upcoming Feast which appeared in the October 6, 2008, issue of the Times-Daily.  Billy reported that he has heard many positive comments on this fine publicity piece.

  2. Donna Miles reminded everyone of the costume-making workshop on Saturday, October 11.  She also reminded everyone to bring a good pair of scissors.  Mandi Green agreed to bring a folding table.  Donna Miles will bring the patterns, chalk and measuring tape.  Billy Warren will bring the two sewing machines that are owned by the Roundtable.  Perri Scott-Hawthorne added her name to those who volunteered to assist with the workshop.

  3. Ann Iaria (in absentia) announced that Thursday, October 23, is the official “Invasion Day” at the Marriott Hotel.  Everyone was encouraged to come to the Roundtable meeting that day in full costume and to go from the meeting to the Marriott.

  4. Billy Warren reported that ticket sales to the Feast are brisk, with many being purchased by people in Huntsville and Birmingham.

  5. Brenda Imrie agreed to add her name to the list of those who will participate in Renaissance Day at Florence High School on Wednesday, October 22.

  6. Donna Miles reported that there is a full slate of entertainment scheduled for the Feast.

  7. Lee Freeman reminded everyone that “Lady Hawke” is the film to be shown at the public library this Sunday, October 12, at 2:00 p.m.

  8. William Freeman:
    1. Reported that he has not heard yet from those in charge of the “Pickwick Belle” regarding the proposed evening to feature a Medieval/Renaissance theme (NOTE:  An advertisement in today’s issue of the Times-Daily  entitles the evening cruise on Tuesday, October 21 as “Dinner With the Pirate King”);
    2. Reported that the Muscle Shoals Middle School students will come to the Coliseum on Friday, October 17, at 9:30 a.m. and 12 noon or 12:30 p.m.;
    3. Stated that he, Carol Burhans and, possibly, Don and Mandi Green will appear at the Cub Scout meeting in Muscle Shoals on Monday, October 13, at 7:00 p.m.

  9. In a drawing, His Majesty King Gregory and Beth Greenwood won hand-decorated eggs.

  10. Aubrey Gaskins reminded everyone about the Roundtable Feast at Stephano’s on Thursday, October 23.  Several people purchased tickets ($20 each) at today’s meeting.

  11. Calvin Liles circulated a photograph (via his cell phone) of the great cart of shame which he is constructing.

  12. Billy Warren distributed paper copies of an email from Nancy and Harold Parks in which they stated that their contribution to this year’s Feast will be a grand pirate ship (which they are building) in honor of the pirate king.  It will stand 12’ high and 16’ long; the sails will extend out 5’ and will be constructed in such a way that they can be furled.  Hooray for the Parkses!

  13. Vinamrata Gupta:
    1. Stated that students at UNA from India will:

                                                              i.      Serve the diners at our Feast (she’s working to get 18 volunteers), wearing their native costumes,

                                                            ii.      Perform Bollywood dances, as well as classical dances from India’s history, at the Faire, and

                                                          iii.      Set up a booth at the Faire to exhibit native items and distribute certain items free of charge; and

    1. Stated that one UNA student from Saudi-Arabia will also add items from her country to the booth at the Faire.

  1. Noelle Smith:
    1. Agreed to schedule times at the Conical Dwelling for Indian students from UNA to perform their native classical and Bollywood dances; and
    2. (drum roll, please!) stated that Alex, the performer on the ladder at both the Feast and the Faire in 2007, will be here again this year!

  2. Brenda Imrie volunteered her portable sound system for the Indian students to play their dance music if they perform on the stage at the Faire.  (Noelle Smith has a sound system at the Conical Dwelling.)

  3. Billy Warren:
    1. Distributed copies of the 2008 poster; and
    2. Circulated a copy of the current issue of Renaissance magazine.
