J. Mashburn, Jan Roblin, Larry Kimbrough

  1. Billy Warren welcomed Jim Matterer and Darrell McCormack to the meeting.  Darrell circulated one of the cookies with a Viking motif that he designed for the Feast.  Jim stated that he taped another show for the Food Channel and that it will air during our Feast.  Both Jim and Darrell received enthusiastic applause.

  2. Cathy Myers asked Roundtable members to send suggestions via e-mail to her by Friday, October 20, regarding the Renaissance Faire so her upcoming story in the Times-Daily will make readers want to come to the Faire.  Several people agreed to send e-mails.

  3. Cathy Myers stated that her story on the David Simpich marionette show, “A Pilgrim’s Progress,” will appear in the Times-Daily on Friday, October 20.  She has interviewed David Simpich as background for this story.

  4. Lee Freeman and others who were present on Sunday, October 15, praised Jan Roblin for her excellent presentation on Renaissance art at the public library.  It was the final lecture in this year’s series.

  5. Billy Warren circulated copies of the great story and accompanying photograph advertising the Feast which was written by Cathy Myers and which appeared in the Times-Daily on October 13.  It is excellent!

  6. Aubrey Gaskins circulated the list for people to sign if they plan to attend the Roundtable Feast at Stephano’s on Thursday evening, October 27.  He stated that only nine tickets remain.

  7. Billy Warren complimented Lee Freeman’s multi-page bibliography of the public library’s holdings on the Medieval/Renaissance era.  He stated that the bibliography will be posted on the website of the public library – a real compliment to Lee and to the Renaissance Faire.

  8. Donna Miles reported a very successful costume-making workshop on Saturday, October 14.  At least 54 costumes were made, all of the brass used at the Feast was polished, and other tasks were completed.  We were even introduced to Thunder and Lucky, the two new horses owned by Larry Kimbrough!

  9. Billy Warren:
    1. Reminded everyone of the Renaissance Day activities at Florence High School on Wednesday, October 25; and
    2. Reminded everyone of the all-day Renaissance events at McBride Elementary School on Monday, October 23, noting that Darlene and Rick Freemon will be joining the group at McBride.

  10. Andy Betterton suggested that images of all posters and all royalty through the years be added to our website.  We will work hard to make this excellent idea happen!  Jan Roblin volunteered to make a digital photograph of each poster.

  11. In a discussion about the upcoming marionette show, these details were noted:
    1. Tickets are on sale in the office at First United Methodist Church.
    2. Andy Betterton, William Freeman and Billy Warren will meet at the church on Thursday, October 26, 10:00 a.m., to review procedures related to the production.
    3. Tickets for the Saturday evening production will be on sale in our information booth at the Faire all day on Saturday, October 28.
    4. We will need a group of volunteers from the Roundtable to get McDowell Hall back in order following the Saturday evening performance since that space is used by the church the following morning.
    5. All Roundtable members are urged to “push” the sale of tickets to the show.
    6. Andy Betterton will bring tickets for the marionette show to the Feast on Saturday night so they can be sold to anyone who wishes them.

  12. Billy Warren displayed a large decorative piece which can be used at the Feast Hall.  It was donated to the Roundtable by Faye Morris (the former Faye Borden who served on the Roundtable for several years).  A huge thank-you to Faye!

  13. In a drawing, these two people won “antique” bulletins (from the 1950’s) published by the Metropolitan Museum of Art: Darrell McCormack and Na’Koal Springer.

  14. Jan Roblin’s book, Planet of Dreams, has now been published.  She reviewed the book and its accompanying gallery of photographs of Renaissance-themed art (which she painted).  Though it’s billed as a children’s book, it will be enjoyed by adults as well since it encourages them to celebrate their inner child.  It will be available in both hardback and soft back.  Congratulations to Jan!

  15. Billy Warren and Kim Lovelace stated that, since the Mayor’s presentation on Florence is being done at the Coliseum tonight, our starting time on Friday to decorate the Coliseum for the Feast will be 9:00 a.m. instead of the usual 8:00 a.m.

  16. These people agreed to assist with setting up the Feast Hall:  Her Majesty Queen Freya, William Freeman, Lee Freeman, Noelle Smith, John Holcomb, Thomas Ray, Na’Koal Springer, Mandi Green, Don Green, Carol Burhans, Luke Frye, Kim Lovelace, Donna Miles, Lindsey Holt, Jan Roblin, Keith Hawthorne, Billy Warren.

  17. Don Green stated that he has rented the large truck for use with the Feast.  He will go to Richards Center early Friday morning to pick up all of the supplies stored there and to the studio at Kennedy-Douglass Art Center where other supplies are stored.

  18. These people agreed to take fresh ivy to the Coliseum on Saturday morning:  Mary Nicely, Donna Miles and Her Majesty Queen Freya.

  19. Don Green distributed staff badges which he made.  As usual, they look terrific!  A round of applause for Don . . .

  20. Lee Freeman circulated a multi-page commemorative menu for the Feast.  If time permits, he will make 200 copies; if not, he will make copies just of the menu itself.

  21. Billy Warren announced that tickets to the Feast have been sold out since Saturday, October 14, and that many requests for tickets have been received since then.
