Minutes of Meeting, 10-20-05

  • Billy Warren acknowledged the passing of two great supporters of the Renaissance Faire:  Jimmy Stanfield and Marie (Mrs. Jim) Holland.  We will place books in the public library in their memory.

     
  • The group welcomed new Roundtable members:  Becky Bassham and Bonnie McIntyre.

     
  • There was a round of applause for the Queen-to-be, Ann Iaria.

  • Darlene Freemon:
    1. Thanked everyone who came to Florence High School on Wednesday, October 19, and made it the most successful Renaissance Day ever;
    2. Stated that teachers at the high school have indicated an interest in making Renaissance Day a schoolwide event next year;
    3. Suggested that we might set up a costume rental booth at the high school next year and charge a minimal amount for those students who wish to rent a costume for a day; and
    4. Circulated the new coin of the realm (to much applause by the Roundtable!).

       
  • Theresa Kanka stated that she will have a shadow box ready for the information booth.  It will contain a set of the five coins in the Arthurian series so customers can see one way of displaying their collection.

     
  • Donna Miles announced that the employees of her husband Greg (Integrity Therapy Group) will wear the 2005 tee shirt all day on Friday, October 21.

     
  • It was agreed that Queen Salana will knight Taz Scott at the opening ceremonies on Saturday, October 22, at 12:30 p.m.  Lee Freeman will create the official certificate of knighthood.  Carol Burhans will provide a pendant on a chain to present to Taz, and there will be some type of recognition for him on Sunday, October 23.

     
  • Sue Bevis agreed to purchase a collection of plastic storage boxes to hold tee shirts and to protect them from the elements.

     
  • In the drawing, Becky Bassham won a DVD entitled “Return of the King” from the “Lord of the Rings” series.

     
  • Billy Warren reminded everyone of the Feast just for Roundtable members tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Stephano’s.

     
  • Mary Nicely circulated these publicity pieces:
    1. The Times-Daily, October 14, 2005 (article by Cathy Myers),
    2. The Courier-Journal, October 19, 2005 (poster sponsored by the Florence City Council),
    3. The Times-Daily, October 18, 2005 (Renaissance art by sixth grade social studies students at Hibbett Middle School),
    4. The Times-Daily, October 16, 2005 (color picture of the 2005 Feast at the Coliseum), and
    5. The Courier-Journal, October 19, 2005 (overview of the Faire).

       
  • Lee Freeman thanked everyone for attending the final lecture at the public library last Sunday.  He stated that Dr. Tom Osborne’s presentation of Renaissance Florence was absolutely great – one of the best ever!

     
  • Don Green reported that preparations for the Faire are on schedule.  We will use the new canvas-covered flats this year instead of the heavy wooden ones.  He asked for volunteers who own pickup trucks to assist.  Carol Burhans and Donna and David Mitchell volunteered.

     
  • Following a discussion of the topic, it was agreed that we will not sell jewelry at the information booth because it would compete with jewelry vendors.

     
  • Sue Bevis agreed to bring the new 10’ x 20’ tent (the information booth) to the park from her house.

  • Perri Scott-Hawthorne stated that Wal-Mart has bales of straw in stock for $3.50/bale.  David Mitchell agreed to pick it up in his truck and deliver it to the park.

     
  • Billy Warren distributed copies of the entertainment schedule for the Faire and explained that groups without specific performance times (e.g., the Troll, the living statue, Menagerie) are not reflected on the schedule.
