Update of Roundtable Meeting 9/6/12

Good afternoon Lords and Ladies!

If you were not present at today’s meeting, fear not, for I (Lord David) will give you a brief rundown on today’s event.  But, just the high points!

The first of the big topics is about a contest being held by Renaissance Festival Podcast, in conjunction with Renaissance Magazine and Celtic Music Cd Store.  This is officially called the 8th Annual Renaissance Festival Awards.  This contest is based on submissions from the general public, and you will see the categories once you follow the link to the award site.  And of course, as we are the Alabama Renaissance Faire, we want all of you to go there and submit us as Best Renaissance Festival .  There is another category worth noting, it is Best Stage Combat Group, it has been mentioned that the sword group of our Faire, the Zholdak Kozaky should be included.  And I should mention that there is one more category that I think we need to include another of our local performing group in, Best Group Performance, in this I feel we should include the Rainbow Dancers.

The second big topic is also concerning Renaissance Magazine and the pictorial of our Faire from last year, which was our 25th Anniversary .  The photos were presented to us for captioning and any corrections that we thought needed made, this has been done and the photos returned to Lady Janet at the magazine.  This coming issue is to be released by September 15, which is just next week.  There will be copies available to the Roundtable and you can also locate the magazine at Books-A-Million.  Be sure to check back for more information and also come to the next meeting, on the 20th of this month.

And now our third topic, concerning the day of the Feast.  We have been invited to come and join the members of the Bluewater Creek Polo Club on October 20th from 11am-2pm, for a Ring Joust.  A Ring Joust is a skill portion of  the contest we all know as Jousting, it does not involve full contact with an opposing rider.  The riders will attempt to collect rings upon their lances and the one with the most rings is the winner.  This is a video on youtube, demonstrating the sport.

This other video is from the History Channel show Full Metal Jousting, it is what we think of as full contact jousting.
