ALABAMA RENAISSANCE FAIRE

Minutes of Meeting, 5-18-06

 

 

Those present:  John Holcomb, Perri Scott-Hawthorne, Her Majesty Queen Freya, John Iaria, Donna Miles, Bonnie McIntyre, Carol Burhans, Darlene Freemon, Becky Love-Bassham, Billy Warren, Lindsey Holt, Don Green, William Freeman, Lee Freeman, Jan Roblin, Aubrey Gaskins, Larry Kimbrough, Sue Bevis

 

  1. Lindsey Holt was welcomed as the newest member of the Roundtable.  She will represent the Florence-Lauderdale Tourism Bureau on the Roundtable.

     
  2. Billy Warren reported (drum roll, please!) that the Florence-Lauderdale Tourism Bureau has contributed $500 to the Roundtable to assist with expenses related to the trips to be made by Roundtable members to public libraries in the state in conjunction with the Summer Reading program.  He distributed copes of the letter of request that he wrote to the Board of the Tourism Bureau.

     
  3. Darlene Freemon led a discussion regarding the trips to public libraries.  Following is a list of the libraries, the dates for Roundtable members’ visits and Roundtable members who have agreed to go on each trip:
    1. Monday, June 5, 5 p.m. (leave Richards Center parking lot at 2:00 p.m.), North Shelby County Public Library:  William Freeman, Taz Scott, John Holcomb, Don Green, Perri Scott-Hawthorne, John Iaria
    2. Thursday, June 15, 4 p.m. – program for boys (leave Richards Center parking lot at 2:30 p.m.), Rogersville Public Library:  William Freeman, Don Green, Lee Freeman, Her Majesty Queen Freya, John Iaria, Taz Scott, John Holcomb, Perri Scott-Hawthorne.
    3. Thursday, June 22, 4 p.m. – program for girls (leave Richards Center parking lot at 2:30 p.m.), Rogersville Public Library:  William Freeman, Donna Miles, Her Majesty Queen Freya, Don Green, Perri Scott-Hawthorne, Lee Freeman, Becky Love-Bassham, John Holcomb.
    4. Wednesday, June 28, 10 a.m. – program for children ages 4-7 (leave Richards Center parking lot at 6:00 a.m.), Pell City Public Library:  William Freeman, Perri Scott-Hawthorne, Bonnie McIntyre, Donna Miles, Darlene Freemon, John Holcomb.
    5. Tuesday, July 18:

                                                               i.      10:30 a.m. – program on weapons (leave Richards Center Parking lot at 7:00 a.m.), Pelham Public Library:  William Freeman, Keith Hawthorne, Perri Scott-Hawthorne, Don Green, Taz Scott, John Holcomb, Her Majesty Queen Freya.

                                                             ii.      2:00 p.m. – general program, Alabaster Public Library:  same performers as Pelham Public Library, plus Jan Roblin.

 

William Freeman agreed to be the point of contact for all trips; therefore, questions and suggestions should be e-mailed to him (mrpuppt@comcast.net).  People not at today’s meeting who might like to go to any or all libraries should also contact William by e-mail.

 

It is possible that we might secure a NACOLG mini-bus for some of the trips to Birmingham-area libraries.

 

  1. Darlene Freemon reported that the April, 2007, trip to Italy is sold out, with a waiting list already in place.  What a great compliment to Darlene!

     
  2. Jan Roblin announced that she will host a series of gatherings at Spanish Oaks Gallery for those going on the trip to Italy to learn conversational Italian.

     
  3. Lee Freeman reported that the schedule for Volgemut, the German bagpipe band that will be touring the United States this fall, will probably not permit it to come to Florence for our Faire.

     
  4. Donna Miles reported that the entertainment schedule for our 2006 Feast is now set.  Hooray!

     
  5. Billy Warren reported that Menagerie will:
    1. Perform at our Feast on Saturday, October 21;
    2. Serve as artist-in-residence at Florence High School from Monday, October 23, through Friday, October 27; and
    3. Perform at the Faire on Saturday and Sunday, October 28 and 29.

       
  6. In the monthly drawing, Carol Burhans won an Irish lapel pin and a wallet card bearing an Irish blessing.  John Iaria won a lockable diary.

     
  7. Billy Warren:
    1. Reported that letters to crafts vendors have been mailed, with some already returned with requests for booth space reservations;
    2. Distributed copies of the schedule for Wiporwil’s Bellydance Extravaganza at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum, May 26-28; and
    3. Distributed copies of a flyer advertising the Tennessee Renaissance Festival and the remaining free tickets to that event.

       
  8. Poster entries were judged, with Shawn Wallace of Phil Campbell declared to be the winner.  The group asked Billy Warren to communicate to these people that their poster design should be re-entered for the 2007 competition:
    1. Randy Finch,
    2. Judd Portzer,
    3. Krena Curtis, and
    4. Bryan A. Jones.
