ALABAMA RENAISSANCE FAIRE

Minutes of Meeting, 6-21-07

Those present:  William Freeman, Donna Miles, Karen Ugrovics, Gage Ugrovics, Randall Ugrovics, Lee Freeman, Becky Love-Bassham, Billy Warren, Ann Iaria, Carol Burhans, John Holcomb, Bonnie McIntyre, Rick McAdams, John Iaria, Aubrey Gaskins, Jim Lake, Sue Bevis, Cathy Myers, Mary Nicely, Jan Roblin, Austin Iaria

  1. Billy Warren announced that the Roundtable has placed the following book in the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library in memory of Skyler Eugene Dapper, grandson of Lisa and John Butts (Menagerie):  The Golden Age:  Manuscript Painting at the Times of Jean, Duke of Berry by Marcel Thomas.

  2. To hearty applause, Billy Warren announced that Skin and Bones is returning to the Faire after a three-year absence!

  3. Billy Warren reported that Suzanne Lindley, French teacher at Florence High School, has agreed to work with the French Club there to set up a booth at the Faire this year.  It will reflect some aspect of French history during the Medieval/Renaissance period.

  4. Billy Warren exhibited four elaborate Renaissance costumes and two floor-length capes which Theresa Vaughn has donated to our costume collection.  (It was noted that Donna Miles created three of the costumes.)

  5. Rick McAdams displayed all types of jewelry that he has created with gold chains and coins of the realm.  These will be sold in our information booth at the Faire.  After a discussion of possible prices for the jewelry pieces, it was agreed that Rick should determine the price for each.  There was enthusiastic applause for Rick’s ingenuity and his willingness to donate time and labor for this fundraising project.

  6. All who attended the Tennessee Renaissance Festival in May agreed that it was a successful event.  The group expressed appreciation to Jackie and Mike Freeman for providing us with free tickets.

  7. Rick McAdams exhibited a lapel pin which he created with a coin of the realm.  It was agreed that we won’t sell such pins; instead, they will become our official staff badges to be used each year.  Rick will make 48 of these.  Someone on the Roundtable will design a way to attach the word “Staff” to the pin, perhaps by using a length of ribbon.

  8. In the absence of Susan Key, a date in July for decorating the information tent was not established.  Billy Warren will talk with Susan and will e-mail the date to everyone on the Roundtable.

Lee Freeman presented a packet of information regarding the decorating of Medieval/Renaissance-style pavilions.  It came from this website:  www.greydragon.org/library/decoratingpavilions

  1. In a drawing, Jim Lake won a collectible LP album on Renaissance art.  Mary Nicely won a book entitled A Guide to Ireland.

  2. The group judged the entries in the 2007 Alabama Renaissance Faire Poster Contest.  The winning entry was created by Vicky Antoine.  Billy Warren will contact her immediately so the poster can be sent to the printer.

  3. Billy Warren reported that responses from crafts vendors, food vendors and entertainers for this year’s Faire are being received remarkably fast this year.  Again, the returning vendors, for the most part, are requesting the same spaces they had last year.  That is a huge compliment to Susan Key and others who assist her with the park layout.

  4. Because of time constraints, these items will receive further discussion at the July Roundtable meeting:
    1. Tunnels for children created from appliance crates;
    2. Large cardboard castle for children to decorate with buttons, sequins, etc.; and
    3. Parade of Canterbury Pilgrims.
