Those present: His Highness Tommy
Letsinger, Spencer Letsinger, Rick McAdams, Autumn Harris, Don Green, John
Iaria, Anna Iaria, Billy Warren, Lee Freeman, William Freeman, Paul
Daniel, Carol Burhans, Thomas Ray, Donna Miles, Perri Scott-Hawthorne, Jim
Lake, Kim Lovelace, Mary Nicely, Andy Betterton
- Donna Miles stated that she will be directing a
wedding at the Ohio Renaissance Faire the weekend of the costume-making
workshop. Therefore, Don Green and William Freeman will serve as
chairmen of the workshop this year (Saturday, October 8).
- Billy Warren reminded everyone that there will be
TWO meetings of the Roundtable in September: Thursday,
September 1, and Thursday, September 15. He will send a
reminder e-mail to all Roundtable members prior to each meeting.
- Ann Iaria announced that Larry Bowser, General
Manager of the new Marriott Hotel, has invited Billy Warren to meet with
him over lunch to discuss the happenings during Renaissance Month.
Billy thanked Ann for arranging this meeting and stated that he will
certainly attend.
- Kim Lovelace stated that Tina Kitchens, the new
director of Florence Parks and Recreation Department, is a fine person
with an excellent background in recreation management who will be an
asset to the needs of the Renaissance Feast and Faire.
- Don Green announced that all PVC and canvas have
now been purchased for the “walls” that he is constructing. He is
now gluing all of the joints of the PVC together. (There are 78
joints on each of the 10 frames!) He has not ordered the gesso
yet; he wants to be able to use it properly before he orders it since it
costs $35 per gallon. Don and an anonymous donor are paying for
all supplies as their gift to the Feast and Faire. (A huge round
of applause for Don and the other person!)
- Billy Warren distributed copies of a flyer that
advertises the fourth annual Gulf Coast/Mobile Renaissance Faire
scheduled for November 19 and 20.
- Lee Freeman stated that he will try to have the
printed program for this year’s Feast ready to send to the printer by
our next meeting (Thursday, September 1). Perri Scott-Hawthorne
suggested that we use a colored paper for the outside cover of the
program. Mary Nicely suggested that the interior pages be the same
paper as our new brochure. Donna Miles suggested that a photograph
of Roundtable members be included on the front cover.
- Billy Warren exhibited a beautiful costume,
including two elaborate hats, and a decorative sword which have been
donated to our costume collection by Ms. Kathy Ford. Everyone was
delighted with these valuable additions.
- Mary Nicely reported that Sue Roessell-Dura,
director of the Camellia Consort, is once again able to participate in
the Feast and Faire after a few years of schedule conflicts. Billy
Warren will invite her to participate in both events.
- Billy Warren stated that he is continuing to
communicate with Simpson Russell and Mayor Bobby Irons regarding our
hopes for a working Medieval village at Veterans Park.
- Sue Bevis (in absentia) reported that she
has purchased the 10’ x 20’ tent for our information booth. Lee
Freeman suggested that we refer to the booth as the “Relics and
Information Pavilion.”
- Billy Warren reported that our new brochures
(actually, a re-creation of our original brochure in 1989) are being
printed and should be delivered within the next few days.
- Billy Warren announced (drum roll, please!) that
we are receiving a reimbursement from the City for the insurance premium
($1,700+) that we paid in 2004.
- In the drawing, Andy Betterton, won an audio CD of
German Medieval music.
- Billy Warren distributed copies of the schedule of
events for Renaissance Month 2005 which he had downloaded from our
website. He reviewed the schedule with the group and asked for
suggestions of events that should be added. Mary Nicely noted that
the annual exhibit of the Shoals Artists Guild should be added.
Carol Burhans stated that the annual workshop sponsored by the Rainbow
Dancers (featuring Mesmera) should also be added. Other
suggestions: His Highness Tommy Letsinger, the performance by the
Shoals Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, October 30; Lee Freeman, the movie,
“Luther,” on Sunday, October 16, at Magnolia Church of Christ; Donna
Miles, a costume contest at the Renaissance Faire. These and
others will be added as the month’s events are set.
- Billy Warren announced that the 2005 posters have
now been delivered. Roundtable members took copies with them for
the own collection and for mounting in various places to advertise the
Faire.
